International Migrants Day

On International Migrants Day (December 18, 2023) we review and celebrate the contributions of millions of migrants around the world.

People on the move – workers, students, entrepreneurs, family members, artists and many more – are powerful drivers of development in both origin and destination countries. Migrants often maintain very close ties to their countries of origin while embracing their new communities to which they bring a wealth of knowledge, experience and skills.

If properly managed, mobility can be a cornerstone for sustainable development, prosperity and progress. Unlocking the potential of migration is key to accelerating efforts to achieve for the benefit of all the significant challenges of the 2030 Agenda, articulated during the New York Sustainable Development Goals Summit held in September 2023.
