In the United States, each state is divided into congressional districts. Each district elects one person to the U.S. House of Representatives, which makes laws at the federal level (for the entire country). New Jersey has 12 congressional districts, and each address belongs to a single district. To find out which one you live in, you can go to the House of Representatives website and use the “Find Your Representative” option: there, you enter your zip code or address, and the system tells you your district number and the name of your representative in Congress.
