Some of the work Wind of the Spirit has done over the years in advocating for immigrant rights, human rights, justice and dignity
- WotS educated, organized, and mobilized thousands of people in NJ against H.R. 4437, a law that sought to criminalize undocumented immigrants and those who helped them.
- Acceptance of undocumented students to MCC was achieved: Wind of the Spirit mobilized the community to pass DACA.
- . Undocumented students were able to go to college for 2 years and apply for student aid after many years of work with DACA, the Dream Act with equal tuition, and student loans.
- WotS led for more than 20 years the campaign for Driver's Licenses, until it was legalized for all citizens and non-citizens, residents, DACA recipients and undocumented persons as of May 1, 2021.
- WotS distributed more than $1,000,000 in resources to undocumented immigrants in the community during the pandemic.
- WotS provided an active response to community needs during the pandemic without closing for the day: census taking, door-to-door public health education, relief information, etc.
- 10,000 face masks were produced and distributed free of charge
- More than 2,000 workers received a two-hour COVID awareness training session
- More than 3,000 families were helped to register for the 2020 Census.
- Helped distribute cash cards to 1,200 families.
- (57 people took the training for disaster site workers.
- 1,500 thermometers were distributed to the community.
- . WotS stopped the implementation of 287G in Morristown, setting a national precedent against collaboration between local police and immigration - homeland security.
- WotS achieved BIA Accreditation to provide immigration services.
- Passing municipal identification was achieved in: Plainfield, Dover, Morristown and Madison.
- WotS assisted with NJ Safe in Newark and Jersey City. NJ Safe (an executive order, whereby the police will no longer cooperate with ICE.
- WotS signed the first Community Alliance in the country with OSHA.
- We supported the Paid Sick Leave campaign for all workers.
- Support was provided to the NJ campaign to raise the minimum wage to $15.00.
- Successful alliance achieved according to Hilda Solis
- More than 15,000 migrant workers were trained in Health & Safety.
- March 25, 2023 was the first graduation of the Making History workshops.
- Thousands of domestic workers won recognition of their rights and labor protections in NJ following the signing of the Domestic Workers' Bill of Rights Act by Governor Phil Murphy in Trenton, New Jersey.
- WotS continues to work on behalf of the Registry to move the date of this law, allowing undocumented immigrants in this country to adjust their immigration status. The fight for permanent residency for people with DACA and TPS continues.
