On Monday morning, the New Jersey Immigration Alliance Coalition (NJIAC), in partnership with the Plainfield chapter of Wind of the Spirit (WOTS), led an 8-mile march to the office of Senate President Nicholas Scutari in Clark to call for the passage of the Immigration Trust Act (ITA).

The ITA would limit New Jersey’s involvement in federal detentions and deportations by establishing stronger privacy protections for individuals interacting with state and local agencies. It would also reinforce New Jersey’s Immigration Directive, issued in November 2018, which restricts state and local law enforcement from collaborating with federal immigration authorities such as ICE.
