The federal Department of Labor is proposing a change to the “companion rule” that would lead to the denial of federal minimum wage and overtime entitlement for caregivers. Home care agencies would no longer have a legal duty to pay minimum wage or overtime to the caregivers they employ.
The Department of Labor is trying to say that home and care work is not “real work” and is not a qualifying profession deserving of labor rights and protections.

The Department of Labor is trying to deny home care workers their fundamental rights to a federal minimum wage and overtime pay. We have until September 2 to tell the Department of Labor: home care workers are essential professionals. You must help us guarantee the rights of these workers.
